Katarina began to skate when she was five years old. Her natural talents began to show, she received an entry to a Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on youngsters with sporty aptitude. At this school she met her trainer Jutta Muler. Witt made her mark by finishing second at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. After that, she began dominating the sport with elegance and grace. Olympic triumph at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's bronze medal in figure skating after an intense contest. The winner of the competition was a more competitive contest the following year. Witt actually fell short of the free skating contest, however she earned the gold medal based on her performances in the compulsory figures and the short programme. Witt became the first female repeated winner of figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career acting. Despite not winning the gold medal, she impressed the crowd. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
